The most important European monarch of the late Middle Ages, Holy Roman Emperor and King of Bohemia, Charles IV of Luxemburg (1316 – 1378) had a major influence on the development of the Kingdom of Bohemia, which became the centre of Europe under his rule. Prague became the seat of the Holy Roman Empire and the whole kingdom experienced an unprecedented economic, urban, cultural and artistic development.
On the occasion of the 700th anniversary of the birth of Charles IV, the masters of Czech porcelain manufacture, Thun Studio, have created a cup and saucer as a tribute to this king. The hand-made cup and saucer are richly decorated with gold, cobalt and full-colour motifs inspired by the famous decorations of the Chapel of the Holy Cross in Karlštejn Castle. The product was designed by the academic sculptor Jiří Laštovička.
